I've wanted a Chris Reeves Small Sebenza for quite some time, but couldn't talk myself into paying $400+ for a knife with S35VN steel. I'm just not a fan of the steel personally. After reading a few reviews of the M390, I decided it's a steel I could see myself liking. Also, it had a classic design much like the Small Sebenza. So far I've had the knife 4 months, and I've been thoroughly impressed with it. The blade takes an impressive edge, and holds it for a impressive duration. The only complaint is that the liner lock seems to have slightly too much tension, and I have not been able to adjust it. This causes for stiff opening. With time it has eased up a bit, but not quite where I would like it. The materials used are top notch. I have yet for the knife to show any signs of wear, and I treat my knives as tools. They get used daily, and in a somewhat aggressive fashion.

I bought the knife initially as a classy dress piece when I'm in a professional setting, and don't want a large folder hanging out of my pocket. It has now became my most used EDC, and not worried about damaging it in everyday use. I'll be picking up a 485 Valet with M390 to give a try as well. It's a sleek classy carry piece as well, and love the Axis Lock.

I've had a lot of nice knives over the years but this one takes the cake. The 390 is light saber sharp and has noticeably better edge retention than any of my S30V, 154CM, ATS-34, etc etc etc. The roller bearings are fast as any auto. The lock up is perfect. I don't know how it can be improved - simple, elegant, concise.

Still not available directly from the BenchMade website but I took the opportunity to buy one to complement my 761 Ti during REI's substantial member discount sale over the July 4th weekend. Clearly the 761 was the inspiration for this smaller follow-on framelock but BenchMade addressed some of the gripes levied at the 761...most notably the 765 sports a reversible tip-up or tip-down pocket clip which will please a lot of critics. This is an absolutely superb compact version of my 761 which I'm enjoying even more as an EDC since I typically don't need the extra blade length. Same great M390 steel, really sharp out of the box just like all BenchMade knives, perfectly centered blade and easy one-hand opening. Highly recommended if you're looking for a premium steel framelock with Ti scales.
