Prior to purchasing a Griptillian 551, and then this knife, I had never heard of Benchmade. I new nothing of the company and product. All I was looking for was a high-quality knife, that had good steel, held an edge, and would last a long time. I found the knife on Amazon.com, saw the number of high reviews, and bought it.

The knife itself is a nice, long, knife and serves well as a camping kitchen knife or other detailed cutting work. Because of the shape of the blade and the thinness of it, I do not use it for any sort of bush crafting or hard and heavy work. That, is why I bought the Griptillian mentioned above. I wanted it for harder heavier tasks that I felt the smaller, thinner, blade may not be able to handle.

My biggest complaints are more of nags and niggles, then anything major. I don't like the textured coating on the aluminum handle, and, for a cheaper variant would love to see the same blade with a G10 handle. Also, the lock on mine can sometimes be a bit stiff to unlock if I'm too rough on opening the blade quickly.

Bought this with trout fishing in mind. It's light weight and has a good feel. If you're into camping/fishing I highly recommend this knife! The blade is tight and does click due to the unique locking devise. Bench made customer service is awesome.

A good knife, came sharp and stays that way. Not happy with the blade. When opened, you came wiggle the blade from side to side. And, on the rounded part of the blade where it is attached to the grip, there is a groove in the metal which clicks every time I open it. Still, a great knife, I am very happy with it.

the first benchmade knife i have ever owned and by far the best one Ive ever owned not to fancy and built to last, fits perfectly in the hand and get any and every job done. would recommend to anyone to get one if they have the funds to do so. also, it has held up to many rigorous military training needs as well as civilian hiking and backpacking trips
