I recently traded my friend a paramilitary 2 for this badass tactical blade. I love the ergonomics and the blade shape, there is no blade play in any direction and I don't even notice it in my pocket. The m4 steel is super easy to sharpen on my DMT diamond stone and holds an edge forever. I tried the glass breaker on the window of a ford explorer and the window broke super easy, but so did the back spacer on my knife. It had literally broke in half, I really hope it was just a problem when this specific contego was made and wont happen to other people. I also emailed benchmade for a new backspacer and hopefully will send me a new one because my friend voided the warranty (of course doesn't tell me this until after the trade) so now I cant send the knife in and I'm stuck with a broken contego. But overall I really enjoy this knife and would recommend it to anyone, just be a little carful with the glass breaker so it doesn't break.

This knife is very affordable and is a beast. I can get it very very sharp and it stays extremely sharp WHILE doing exactly what I'm not supposed to be doing with it. That means I use it as a pry-bar, screwdriver, chisel, wedge, etc. It's been run over, fell in to water countless times, burnt, and just plain abused only to come out strong in the end. Recommend it to anyone, not even a knife person, anyone. It delivers.

I'll go ahead and say that I've been a Benchmade fanboy for years now. From the first time I picked up my first one I was hooked. I never go anywhere without my knife, I've carried a Benchmade on countless hunting trips, in my bag out to the range, in my pocket for work, and in my truck for emergencies. Every time I reach for my knife it's never let me down solid lock up great materials and awesome customer service.

I'm 53 and I never heard of the Bench Made brand. What a wasted life.I own many knives and usually carry one. On a recent lengthy road trip through the US, I decided to shop for a new pocket folder. One store had many brands and models to choose from. I was highly impressed by the Contego 810 JBK. Although the price was more than I usually would pay for a pocket knife, I had no hesitations whatsoever. Best folder I've ever owned. Of course I had to play with it as soon as possible. Nicked myself 4 times before I realized it. Should have read the box first. "Packaged Extremely Sharp". Thus, my introduction to BenchMade. Top quality. Might buy another one just for the pure joy of it.

About 3 years ago I was doing some world travel, I asked my uncle what brand knife I should get and without hesitation he said Benchmade. Man, was he right. This knife is a trooper and I have used it in all sorts of applications from the survival skills, to fishing, to edc. I broke my rule of not letting people borrow this knife and of course they broke the tip, not the knife's fault. When I got back to the states I sent it in expecting to pay for a new blade and instead they shipped me out a brand new knife. Not only does this brand make great products, they stand behind them. Benchmade, I will never buy another brand.

I don't write many reviews but this knife deserves my compliments. I used to go through EDC folders about every 6 months or so ($50-$150 knives). Finally bought a the Contego folder. Simply put, I am over 2 years into carrying this knife everyday and will never buy another brand of knife. I would like to purchase another folder but have no logical need as this knife has done everything I've asked of it. I have only sent it back to Benchmade once for a tune up (pocket clip had gotten caught a few times) and factory sharpen at about the 1 year mark. It was back in my pocket less than 2 weeks later. Benchmade's quality and customer support is second to none. If you are on the fence about purchasing a Benchmade product, jump off the fence. Their knives are outstanding. They seem a bit pricey when compared to other popular brands but their performance far surpasses the difference in cost.

I've got a lot of knives, including a few custom made. The Contego (I got the plain edge)I recently purchased is among the best knives I have ever purchased. The blade is easily deployed and will get the job done no matter how that is defined!

This knife opens very well for one handed operation. Quick and good looking. It has a great feel in my hands. I added lasermark which is awesome! My unit crest is now on the blade. H-Minus!

I had been carrying a Benchmade Triage for the past several years. The Axis lock is by far the quickest, one handed opening and closing knife. After 38 years as an LEO, any knife I carry has to have a glass breaker that works. When I saw the Contego, I semi-retired the Triage for the more aggressive blade and slightly larger handle. The knife is tough, keeps an edge and is perfect for EDC.

It as tough as nails as gentle as a butterfly;). I have cut up cans, cardboard, jeans and knotted hair ties out of my 6yr old hair (no hair was harmed in the cutting) deep carry is great handle is a bit aggressive but smooths out to be perfect after a bit. Worth every penny. I even bought my twin brother one because he said he can't drop that keep be of money on a knife. Now he owns a few benchmades he bought himself.

I love this knife as a workhorse, I'm a machinist by day and i work on a farm in the evening. I have cut everything from plastic banding, silage bags, rope, cardboard boxes, and decapitated soda cans for a spitter with this thing and it is still scary sharp. The scales are perfect size and texture with or without gloves, and with greasy or wet or manure covered hands, but they will wear holes in your pants pockets after a short time (2 months for me). The deep carry clip keeps it from falling out nicely which is great for a knife this size and weight. The glass breaker works awesome for convincing stubborn cows to move without causing injury. My only gripe is that Benchmade doesn't make it in M390. I know they make the 810-1401 for Knife Works, but i heard the scales are not as rough, and it does not have a glass breaker. When i cut open salt bags for the softener it has caused the edge, logo, and liners to rust pretty bad,and i have to oil it quite a bit to keep the action from freezing up. I'm not sure why they classify it as tactical, I would carry an Infidel for tactical, this thing belongs on a farm or construction site.

I have had this knife for about a week now and this is a wonderful blade. I have owned Spydercos, Coldsteels, Kershaws, etc... this knife puts them all to shame. The price; well you receive what you pay for... Made in America. Lifetime Warranty and Lifesharp coverage. Bench made has your back in this knife 100%. The laser etching is perfect on the blade. The M4 steel right out of the box was scary sharp. I didn't even have to hone this one. As for the G10 and gimping being "uncomfortable"? If you have delicate hands I would not recommend it. You grab onto this blade and it grabs onto you right back. That's exactly what you need in a tactical knife. This knife can serve as an EDC(it is a little larger in this spectrum) and as a tactical weapon. Overall, I am very satisfied and cannot give Benchmade's work enough praise. My ONLY little nit pick was that there was a HIAR of blade play that I decided to adjust out. I rotated the security screw about an 8th of a rotation, if that. I was actually slightly more critical than usual due to their reputation and I am STILL impressed. My new favorite knife.

Bought a plain-edge Contego as a birthday present for someone else and due to a mix up, I ended up with it. I can't help but be happy about that. It's a formidable piece of kit. Well balanced, extremely grippy, and absolutely stunning to behold, the weight and solidness of this thing inspires mounds of confidence in its ability to take whatever you can throw at it and more. Truly an exception piece to EDC and if I didn't have a well-worn Presidio in my pocket that has been there for four years and that I'm unconventionally fond of, the Contego might have found its way into my pocket.

This is my EDC. It is a very versatile knife that I find uses for constantly. The quality is what you expect from Benchmade, very well built. The blade is formidable and the handle works well gloved or not. I would definitely suggest purchasing this knife if you enjoy the design.

This is one of those knives that you would want to carry everyday, and at the same time not use it because you love it and don't want to get a scratch on it....guilty!.

I'm a huge Benchmade user. My first was the Kulgara and I have several. I bought the Contego because I wanted a stong knife with a longer blade. The CPM M4 steel they used on this knife is unbelievably tough and stays sharp better than ANY blade I own.

Once, I got my Wakeboard rope wrapped around the prop shaft. The rope was made out of DYNEEMA and coated with tough poly coating. Most knives will not cut it. I took my Contego down and with a little effort was able to cut the DYNEEMA rope that has partially MELTED to the propshaft. The Contego saved us from needing to be towed back to the marina and ruining our day.

When I thought I lost it, I panicked. I was so concerned about being without it I bought another the next day. The original turned up some weeks later and now I have two thank God.

I only wish BM would make more knives with M4, and maybe some big fixed blades stainless blades for camping/survival.

I have never owned a fixed blade knife till this one, it goes with me on every outdoor adventure now, it's light and has a razor sharp blade, the tang is perfect and the sheath is top knotch too, never thought I'd own a fixed blade but this one is deff a winner, keep them coming benchmade.

Picked this knife up a few months back and it came out of the box incredible dull. I've since bought a cheap SOG and its like a samurai sword compared to this thing. Referred as the gold standard but I'm not convinced.

The Contego is the perfect compromise between an EDC & Tactical knife. It has a blade that never seems to need sharpening. I've had to cut 2 high quality garden hoses (4 cuttings) to splice them from being run over by the lawn mower. This knife still cuts like it did from the factory. I've gotten to the point that when preparing vegetables and meat for a stew, I prefer using it rather than the kitchen knives. It is light & slim enough for carry in all clothing. Yet sturdy enough for any tactical encounter on the streets. I have a friend with the Adamas. The Contego is longer, but slimmer than it. Again my opinion is this is the best compromise of both worlds. You won't be dissapointed with this knife.

it is a very functional knife, not to mention benchmde service is included. i would ighly recomend this to anyone, it is one of the best knives i have ever owned and an amazing edc. not only is it aestheticaly appealing, its a workhorse, the glass breaker will destroy a windshiel (personally tested) and the blade will finish any task, from thin precision cutting, to heavy use. all the advantages of a big knife, without the disadvantages of taking up your whole pocket, i even carry mine in slim fitting pants quite often. cant recomend highly enough, and after owning it in both blade styles, i would say the plain edge is more usefulland better looking.

I've owned a lot of knives of all variety and this is my favorite of all time. Versatile enough for every day carry, and love it for hiking (can easily strike a spark off of it). When I'm not at work, I have this on me wherever I go. To me, it represents everything I love about benchmade knives. Thoughtfully designed, terrific quality and solid value.
