A good knife overall, but It had some unfinished factory marking on the right side of the blade. Instead of being smooth, it had three steps down. One might also ask for more texture, perhaps checkering on the G10 and on the tang. Other than that, was fairly happy with the knife, it has served me well. Still, I would have expected more.

The knife feels solid and well made. The only issues that I found are the handle feels a little awkward, it doesn't fit my larger hands comfortably and the blade wasn't sharpened well. I have never received a knife that dull straight from the factory. I've spent some time sharpening it myself but for the money paid I'd definitely expect something better. This is my first Benchmade knife and I'm sure there will be more.

I completely agree, Dustin. Overall, another stellar piece from Osborne. No surprise there. Just like it's folding predecessor, the fixed contego lives up to it's English translation: shield. It's tough and dependable and will protect you no matter what. My main concern with the fixed version is the absence of what made the folding version so unique. The incredibly aggressive jimping on several places along the liner and spine of the blade made me feel very, very confident. Perfect for weapons retention in a rough struggle. However, the fixed version had none of this. The g10 is smooth, not textured, and the tang and spine is lacking any jimping aside from a 1.5 inch portion which is only accessed with a reverse grip. Of course, I'm not a knife designer. And I have very limited perspective as it pertains to design. I don't exactly know the intent of Osborne, but that is my humble two cents.

Altogether, a well made knife. There were a few issues I had with it. One, I wish the tang was somehow textured to provide a better grip, along with some checkering on the G10 side plates. One the left side of the blade, where it sweeps down to form the blade, there were uneven machining marks. I expected better from Benchmade. These issues aside, I love the knife and carry it everywhere. A good product, with the potential to be even better with these suggestions.
