I recently just received my Benchmade Mini-Onslaught in the mail. I've been using the blade and I find that the 154cm steel is a large contributing factor to the edge retention of the blade. I typically test the sharpness and edge retention of any my new knives by seeing how many stacked pages the knife will pass under pressure. Out of the box, the Mini-Onslaught easily glided through all the pages in one go. Being surprised of how well it performed. I re-conducted the test 10 times with the last time showing no depreciation in performance.
With regards to the thumbhole opening system, don't let it fool you into thinking that it reduces the deployment time of the blade. Unlike many other of my few other knives which sport a thumbhole opening system, the Mini-Onslaught outperforms the other by far with regards to how fast the knife can be ejected, primarily due to its junction with the incredibly smooth axis locking system. I was amazed of its performance as its smoothness and quickness in opening surpassed my expectations of what a knife blade thumbhole opening system would normally exhibit. Lastly, the ergonomics of the blade. Despite having a smooth and sleek G10 grip, the curvature of the handle and the finger groove towards the pivot of the knife ensure maximum comfort and confidence when slicing through difficult material. Overall this exceeds many other knives with its excellence in quality of steel, edge retention, deployment system and ergonomics. Great Job, Benchmade!
