Great blade/steel. Four whitetail' and one cow elk later the edge has been EZ to maintain. I modified the leather case with Barges contact cement & fiber wire sutures/stitches to stop it from being so pendulous. Not enough for me with the inadequate leather loop, so I carry it packed now and a folder in my shirt pocket (a tree stand necessity in my opinion). I want purchase the model with the black and white handle with the gut hook, but only available with a kydex sheath option which I have had mixed luck with. A nice heavy/substantial black leather sheath is what I would want.

I received this a few days ago and am very impressed with the quality. Well made wooden handle and the sheath holds the knife in place very well. When you push the knife in, it goes over a little build in hump and secures in place very well. I read other reviews where people were saying how sharp it is. Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. I was adjusting the sheath on my side and when I pulled the knife out, my index finger on my other hand holding the sheath in place was closer than I realized. The blade sliced right into my finger. It's so sharp, it never even really hurt but the blood started gushing. I had to be taken to the ER and I got stitches across my whole finger. Totally user error on my part and was a good learning experience for me. So a $150 knife turned into an additional $150 hospital insurance deductible lol. But it's a beautiful knife. I actually just ordered the same knife again but with the G10 handle. I highly recommend this knife.

Blade shape and steel are perfect (assuming steel is the same as my Hidden Canyon Skinner). It's as hard as it can possibly be to still reasonably put an edge back in the field, as opposed to the popular standard S30 V, Elmax, etc.that might hold an edge 50% longer but take five times as long to put back. What's needed is a more substantial grip. Maybe you could offer thicker and broader scales, preferably with finger grooves and a guard and a textured surface. When you sink a blade that size to the hilt with slippery hands (as in quartering a moose), there's not enough handle to hang on to. If you offer such an option, please let me know.

This knife reflects BenchMade's continued superb quality and blade sharpness. The sheath looks really nice (pretty) but that's about it. The sheath that comes with this knife should have been more heavy duty! I guess that I can best describe the leather sheath as being soft, velvety and appears to be light duty. The stitching looks to be inadequate, if you plan on taking this knife hunting or plan on wearing / carrying the knife on a daily basis on your belt loop! I would have thought that BenchMade would have placed this fine knife in a more heavy duty and thicker leather sheath. 5-Stars for the knife itself, but only 3 Stars for the sheath.
BenchMade > > > If available, I would like to get a better quality sheath for this knife! Thank You!

Feels Great in the hand- incredibly sharp,I was worried that the handles would be slick when it was wet but that has not been the case, very versatile blade great for camp chores and animal processing, I had custom laser marking applied and it was perfect, Benchmade got another homerun with this one- I could not be happier

Knife works great I carry it everyday and 7se it for work as well as at home or to field dress a deer. The only complaint I have is the leather Sheath is terrible, I would like to buy a replacement from Benchmade but I can't seem to find it, it became loose quickly and at times my knife would fall ou. Also the plastic inner liner has been coming out since the 2nd week I've had the knife. Other than that the blade is a great quality and I use it for everything. Thanks,Steven

I am a hunting guide in Wyoming and bought this knife to replace a worn out knife I was using. It is incredible, especially for the price. I have quartered and skinned multiple elk and mule deer without touching the blade. Usually it is tough to get through one elk with a single knife no less multiple but this knife did it. It is light and durable, my only complaint is the sheath did not last a single season. But I won't hold that against them because the knife is great and handles the abuse of 70 straight days in the field.

Got my Saddle Mtn Skinner as a Christmas gift from my daughter. Outstanding gift for a Deer hunter like me! Quality is superb, knife came out of the box ready for use, sharp enough to shave you and that is very unusual! Impressed with the fine quality and the sheath is very well made. Won't have to worry about it coming out in the woods. Lifetime warranty and free sharpening for life is superb. Can't wait to try it out on a Deer. Highly recommend these knives for all your Deer Hunters and others as well.

Received the saddle mountain Skinner as a gift from my best friend for being the best man at his wedding. Unfortunately it won't get used for cleaning any big game this year, so my review is just based on first impression and handling. I have to say that I love the look and feel, the sheath is very well made and holds the knife firmly, I don't expect my knife to just drop out at anytime. The blade comes SHARP! I can't wait to put it to some real use, but I can say it is sharper than my current skinning knife, heavier too, and the dymondwood doesn't seem like it'll be slipping out of my hand if it gets a little wet.
