I have purchased 2 of these, both are phenomenal. I have the mini griptillian and a full size. Both are razor sharp and they can take a beating. It goes with me on my Tank and gets abused regularly still has a sharp edge. The griptillian is a great EDC knife that will take the most extreme punishment that you can throw at it. Most everyone in my company has some form of benchmade, and this one seems to be able to take the greatest beating of all of them.

I needed an EDC that wasn't bulky, didn't flop around, was easy to open, and could be cleaned thoroughly with out "stuff" stuck in a bunch of joints/hinges/cracks. The mini-grip fit the criteria, to perfection. As an owner of several Benchmade products, the quality met my expectations. My local knife shop fixes, cleans, sharpens, and fine-tunes Benchmade products for free. Perfect product to meet my EDC needs plus superb customer service - such a rare find!

All my life I have loved and purchased knives, however I thought that spending anything over $50.00 for one was crazy. Then I began to research Benchmade, and boy was I wrong. The first Benchmade I bought was the 570 (a beast of a knife!) and I love it! But I wanted something a little lighter with a smaller price point, and the Griptilian fit the bill. Now first of all let’s talk about the design and quality. The shape of the knife fits perfectly in the hand and looks great, the blade also looks great and is perfect for light to medium duty everyday tasks. The quality is straight up unbelievable, the materials are very high quality and durable, and so are the mechanisms inside, to enforce this I’ll also add that I have been flipping this knife open and closed all day everyday since I got it wondering if it would result in any blade play, but none at all!!! But beyond this amazing knife is the also amazing company, I couldn’t find something I was wanting on there website so I E-mailed them and they replied remarkably fast for a large company. They told me that they would be glad to help me with what I wanted and gave me there customer service phone number, and it kept getting better, the woman who answered the phone was super friendly, almost to the point that I thought she was an old friend! In the end they were able to get the item I wanted with no trouble at all! This is why I will always choose to spend a little more money for a better product that will last a lifetime, with the customer support to back it up!

OH the many. As in oh the many Griptilians knifes I own.
I do not remember when I purchased my first mini grip, but I know I still own it. I know my second one is in the hands of a thief. Since think I have purchased multiple mini grips. They have become my regular EDC. I have one in my wife's car, my car, my wife's purse, my day carry bag, and almost always in my pocket. About 3 years ago I purchased the full size Grip, and I also love that knife. I think either model are some of the best knife models every made, and if all is good in the world Benchmade will always make them. I plan on passing mine down to my children. Without question a purchase any human who wants, or needs a knife should own a Grip.
Thanks BM.

I have reasearched, read reviews and watched videos on the Griptillian but never bought one for myself. I did purchase one for my wife but just never pulled the trigger for myself. Made the mistake of going to the custom shop and a couple of days ago ordered my grip. Sheepsfoot blade, forest green scales with vertical stippling, all black screws and axis lock along with silver deep carry pocket clip. My baby arrived today, talk about quick service. I couldn’t be more pleased. The centering is perfect, the modified sheepsfoot blade is sharp, real sharp. The G10 scales with the vertical stippling feels real good and more substantial than the plastic ones by a lot.did a quick cardboard cut and the blade just zipped through the package I opened. Push cut, paper with ease. The action is a bit stiff in closing but that’s fine with me.i ordered the knife in one of my favorite steels M4, a little mineral oil keeps it rust free.. I live near saltwater and have had no problem with M4 rusting, just take some precautions.my fairly new Bugout just got some bad news, it’s getting relegated to deep pocket carry while the Grip rides in the honor seat of my right front jeans pocket. This is my first Benchmade ordered from the custom shop and they hit it out of the ballpark.. the knives cost a bit more but getting to have a say in the materials used and the attention to detail makes the purchase well worth the extra bucks. Good Job Benchmade I am lovin my Grip and highly recommend the custom shop and did I tell you I am lovin my Grip.

I have looked, researched, read reviews on the Griptillian, bought o e for my wife but just never seemed able to pull the trigger for some reason. Well the itch got me a couple of days ago and I explored the custom shop.. should have stayed away. You know a knife is good when you see people reviewing it after YEARS of use! I’ve had my trusty Griptilian for about 5 years now. It’s my right-hand man! I carry it with me religiously every day, and it just LASTS! I remember it being shave-sharp out of the box. But it’s the edge retention that separates quality knives from the junk. I have never needed to hone this knife, but I occassionally give it a few passes on a kitchen steel. I actually have a relationship with this knife. And I can certainly say I would be in literal tears if I ever parted with or lost it. I’m so tempted to purchase another Benchmade, but I actually feel like that would be cheating on my loyal Griptilian.... lol!

A knife may be a mariner's most important tool. As a mariner myself, I can say that the Griptilian performs well. Although I have only had my Griptilian for just over a year, thus far it has shown no signs of giving up. Seeing the other reviews on here definitely reinforces that idea as well. This knife has no problem cutting through 3-inch hawser, canvas, fabric, etc. and has gotten me out of a few dicey situations. Price isn't too bad either.

Hey! I have a Griptilian 556, 154cm. First off, I would like to say that this is by far the highest quality knife I have ever owned without a single doubt in my mind. I am a rock climber and I spend weeks at a time in the wilderness. Hiking, trail running, climbing, etc. I am also a collision repair technician and fix/build cars for a living. My knife is a tool. I am the kind of person who wants to be absolutely sure that I am able to depend on something 100% in any and every situation (atc, harness, ropes, carabiners, belay, etc). I wake up every morning and get dressed as anyone else does. Phone, wallet, knife. These items leave the house with me every time no matter what. I use a knife for everything you could possible imagine and probably a few things you couldn’t imagine. I feel secure and safe and capable with this knife on my hip. I trust the quality and craftsmanship with my life if it came down to it. Benchmade crafts a knife with precision, care, and every little detail that will make you appreciate it every time you flip open the blade. It is sharp as hell, smooth as the wind, sturdy as fixed blade and just looks bad ass. Thank you Bench Made, for providing such a high quality product that I know I will always be able to rely on. It is perfection in a knife.

Ive had my Griptillian for 18 years now and am so impressed with how well its holding up! Its been used for anything from gutting fish and wild game to a general cutting tool and even a screwdriver here and there...and a small shovel. I was told by some that the axis lock would eventually fail but Ive flicked it open and closed probably a million times and its still holding up. Ive lost it for a period of 2 years and somehow found it again. Seems like Im destined to have it forever. Benchmade is the only knife Ill ever buy. I have the hunting knife with the gut hook and it's insanely sharp and holds an edge very well. ALL these knives are well worth the money!

My Griptillian has been my EDC now for over 8 years. It has traveled with me across 5 continents and deployed to Afghanistan with me, it has fed me countless meals, skinned animals, gutted fish, and been one of my most reached for tools as a private and professional mechanic. I've bought other knives since, including a nicer Benchmade, but the Grip still ends up in my pocket every day without exception. It's built well enough to always work, but is utilitarian enough to sport the damage and patina that comes with such use without guilt.

This is my first Benchmade, and I've always been happy with it. IT's by no means flashy, Showy, or sophisticated; arguably, the entire point of this knife. It's the one knife I'll use at work to open boxes and I don't care if it gets dirty or gets tape residue on it because its my workhorse knife. If you want Benchmade quality in a knife that you won't be afraid or guilty of it getting beat up, this is definitely the guy for you.

I ordered a Griptilian using Benchmade's custom order function. Paying slightly more for the custom order function, I expected to receive the exact knife I ordered; unfortunately, this was not the case. Although the knife seems to be well made with quality components, it is not what I ordered. A comparison of the invoice shipped with my knife versus the actual knife clearly shows a discrepency. A standard quality control should not be missed by a reputable company.

The Griptilian was the first Benchmade knife I bought after years of using the cheap $30 knives from local sporting goods stores. Man was I impressed! Right out of the box you can see and feel the difference in quality and you know you have a great product. Mine is the satin drop point blade, serrated edge, standard handle, 154cm steel and after 2 years it's held up very well and i've put it through some hard use. I'm now sold on Benchmade and have also purchased the Mini Griptilian and the Boost 590SBK. Absolutely excellent craftsmanship and quality!

just recieved my custom designed griptilian and right out of the box it looks and feels great, very sharp and is exactly what i expected when i ordered it, took a bit longer to get than i expected but not to bad and it was clearly worth the weight the only issue i'm seeing with it so far is that the axis lock is really stiff but i'm sure that will clearance itself very quickly so i think it's safe to say i'm very happy with this product

4+ years of use in the oil field and I am finally sending it in to be professionally looked over. It’s been through a lot “use” to say the least. Anyone who knows, the oil field can be rough. From severe weather conditions and all sorts of chemicals, this knive has stood up to some extreme use and still works great.

For years my cousin and I will send each other gifts randomly. If we find that we like a product we just send one to the other guy. 2 years ago I purchased 2 for both of us. It's definitely one of the best gifts that I've sent his way. We both use the knife often, I wear mine almost every day in the benchmade sideways sheath (also a cool product). After owning many knives for work and having them dull quickly or even break I've found that spending a little extra on the quality knife is worthwhile. I've used this knife to cut through 8" mooring lines on my ship which we would normally use a hacksaw for and the knife has held up well. It's steady, sharpens well and is built to last.

First of all let me say that IMO the "standard" Gryptilian is the best EDC knife made. IMO the number of knives and styles in the Benchmade lineup are too confusing. Of course the goal of any business is to make a profit but for the potential buyer to try to figure out....from BM's literature...what knife to buy it is just too confusing. I am a retired Graduate Metallurgical Engineer B.S.1953 U.of I. I have worked for 2 steel makers during my career. D2 steel is my favorite but you can only get a GRyp. in D2 from one supplier...to my knowledge. I own several GRPts both full size and Mini...new and used, D2 and SS. I have an extensive knife collection but the Gryp. with semi-serr blade in BM's standard Stainless grade is my EDC knife.

I've had two griptilian's over the year. My newest I lost in less than a year. The older one that I still carry, I purchased in the early 2000's. It must be around 15 years old. It's still going strong and I haven't been kind to it. I live on the east coast. When I was out in Oregon I stopped by the shop. Dropped it off and they sharpened it, replaced a few screws I lost along the way. They went through it and sent it back. It was like having a brand new knife all over again. The knife has been great as well as my interactions with the company. Highly recommend.

I initially owned owned a mini griptilian that I lost. Got another from REI which has been my EDC for some time now, and I absolutely love it. Ordered two custom full-size griptilians - one for my future son in law who is a paramedic (Christmas gift) and one for me. Black drop-point S30V blades with Sand G10 grips and black screws and liners.

The knives are absolutely beautiful and very sharp out of the box.The combination black blades with sand handles are very attractive. I also had some custom laser marking added to each blade with is very well done. I appreciate high quality and and value and these knives are definitely both.

At All American Reviews, we do extensive research to find the best products made in the USA. We recently set out to find the best pocket knives made in America, and the Benchmade Griptilian 551 came in as our #1 pocket knife with the best grip! The grip was second to none among the knives that we researched. The GFN handle is very strong and the blade is super sturdy, despite the knife being relatively lightweight. Awesome find!

My buddy (Kyle) lost his Griptillian in my backyard on Friday, 11/25/2016 after a day of shooting guns. But on August 26th, 2017 my other buddy (Scott) came over to shoot with his 10-yr old son (Luke) who somehow found Kyle's knife while exploring in the wooded area of my backyard. It had been exposed to Ohio weather for the past 9-months. But after a quick clean-up with some G-96 it looks as good as new! Amazing quality! My buddy Kyle is a happy man again! Thank you Benchmade for such OUTSTANDING quality! As a result, I just bought another Griptillian for my daughter's Gampa! Love, love, LOVE Benchmade Knives!

I have owned the mini Griptilian for around two years now. Purchased from REI with my cashback rewards so I did not have to pay a dime out of pocket. I have used and severely abused this knife at work and at home for the past two years and it still works flawlessly. Blade, grips, and the locking mechanism are still in fantastic shape, even using it as pry and driver. I highly recommend this knife, it never leaves my side.

So I’d like to start off by saying while my experience with the knife has not been the best Benchmades customer is great and they have always been friendly in answering my questions. I purchased a griptilian with d2 steel a couple years back and spent $250 to custom make it. The knife came it looked to be great quality. Within a week however the blade chipped and while I use my knife a good amount I am not extremely hard on it. Within a month 2 screws in the Center of the knife fell out and were lost as I did not realize they had fallen out till they were gone. I had the blade sharpened professionally and the chip was smoothed out. Now within the last 2 months the top of the blade is chipped again and a tooth on the serration has chipped as well. The handle has held up great other than the screws falling out which did not seem to affect it much but the d2 blade is trash. I have not had a chance yet to send it in for warranty but honestly I’m about to just buy a new knife as I am so fed up with this one. As I said earlier Benchmade is a great company and I will be buying another knife from them I would just go with the standard 154.

I've had my griptilian or about a year now, I love the knife it is a great work/utility knife also great for everyday tasks and camping. The plastic scales are a con for me and feels cheap for a $120 knife, I actually ended up putting metal scales on it from applied weapons technology and I highly recommend that upgrade.

I bought this pocket knife as a gift for my boyfriend, and I couldn't be more pleased with the overall quality and customization. The blade is very sharp and smooth and the details and weight of it are more than acceptable. I'm thinking of also getting one for myself in the future. The price was a bit high in the end, but not something I'm not willing to pay for the quality. I received it in 14 days which was not that bad of a wait for a customized item. Very pleased, ;D

I've had one of these knives for about 15 years the serrated blade with black coating and it has performed nothing less than outstanding for all tasks. I recently bought a new one with the plain blade and still coated as I like the performance of these super knives. When used properly as intended they will last a lifetime; that said the only reason I bought another is I always preferred the plain blade and the first one was an issued knife while in the military. The lifesharp is a great feature which we all pay for in the price of each knife although if you want to keep a razors edge in between you can use this little gem made by Buck to keep your blade performing as it should. Buck Knives 97076 EdgeTek Dual Grit Pocket Stone Diamond Knife Sharpener; I just do about five very light swipes on each side of the blade to maintain a razors edge for my benchmade knives. American made knives and accessories are top notch in my book and I enjoy their attributes for all outdoor activities where survival tools are needed.

TLDR: An Amazing knife, buy one now.

I've had my Griptilian for over 6 years now and I have to say its the best knife I've ever owned. Its lasted a long time and through a ton of abuse during my many camping trips and time as an infantryman in the army. They have gotten a bit more expensive over the years but I would still buy a new one if mine ever decided to run away. I will say they are hard to keep sharp with typical sharpening techniques because the steel is so strong but with LifeSharp I never have to worry about my knife getting dull.

I bought this knife a few weeks ago and I love it. I bought the black handle with 154CM steel blade. To be honest, I didn't really like it at first. After going to my local knife store and looking at this knife several times, it grew on me. The biggest reason why I didn't like it at first is the handle. It's kind of bulky and more of a plastic like feel to it but after holding it a couple of times and looking at it I Had to buy it. I wear looser clothing so I don't really notice it in my pocket considering it's one of the thickest knives I own. The 154CM steel is wicked sharp and holds an edge well and it's not difficult to sharpen (one of my favorite knife steels because it's durable and simple to maintain). If you don't like the handle, Bencmade has a G 10 version which is better quality but I prefer to have a black handle. This is a great starter knife and I got it under $100 at my local knife store. it is by far one of my favorite knives. If you're thinking about getting one don't hesitate. I promise you won't be disappointed

I purchased the griptilian 550-1 with black coating last month for an airman going on his first deployment. Nothing seemed to be right with it when I received it. The blade was so horribly centered it rubbed against the g-10 scales and the coating new out of the box looked like it was painted on with a brush.. You could see the lines from the brush fibers all through the blade. So I called and had a replacement rushed to me before the Thanksgiving holiday and a week before I was supposed to give it as a gift. The second knife got to my house quickly but there were still significant quality control issues. Namely a razor sharp burr in the thumb hole and absolutely horrible sharpening. The person on the grinder either had a hangover that day or was itching to get home early as the bevel on one side was significantly ground at a more obtuse angle than the other side and I could literally see "waves" from uneven pressure. I took pictures and sent them to customer service and the initial lady I spoke with was amazing and very helpful but she due to me purchasing through a Leo/military vendor she sent along the case to the government purchasing reps and assured me that I would hear from them within a few days. I never did. The initial customer service rep continued to give me follow up info and stayed on top of things making sure I was taken care of. I later had to get that individuals name and left no less than 3 messages that went unreturned. By the time she actually answered it was to late to make the deadline and I had already spent 5 hours on my apex pro sharpener to get the blade in decent shape and a dremel to get rid of the burr in the thumb hole and had given it to the airman as he was getting on the c130 to head overseas.
When I did speak to the rep she bluntly asked me what exactly I wanted from her, told me that I shouldn't even be speaking with her. I asked for NOTHING from Benchmade. Merely an acknowledgement that they dropped the ball and showed proof in pictures. She then sent me an email giving me authorization for a free blade replacement that was condescending and made me sound like a liar and created doubt that it was ever a gift at all. I will never purchase another Benchmade knife after this experience.

the first word that comes to mind is Awesomeness "An unmeasurable amount of awesomenimity something can produce". I love this knife I cant say anything bad about it. I have to say not all Benchmade knives are Awesome but the Grip is one of the best knives I have ever owned, I have a lot of knives and a lot of Benchmade knives to be exact I have 8 Benchmade knives, two Buck knives, 2 SOG knives but as an EDC knife you just simply cant beat the Griptillian. the first grip I owned I lost, I turned to a SOG knife but quickly relized that the SOG was no where close to the Grip, so I ordered a custom made Griptillan and WOW love the S30V blade its razor sharp and it holds it sharpness a long time. well I could go on and on but you'll have to try one for your self it may not be for everyone but I love it.

I have mixed feelings on this review. I'd like to start off by saying the knives are amazing, they have definitely earned their reputation. It's the legendary customer service which disappointed me however. If you need a knife sharpened or a new belt clip, then yes they do a great job. My gripe is,when I
purchases alot of knives from Benchmade to give out as gifts. I was a super fan of BM knives, and was trying to show their quality and customer service reputation to my family and friends. The problem I ran into, was when giving a knife gift, it's a personal item I discovered. Not everyone has the same tastes, and not everyone liked the choice of knives I had picked for them. So, I would bring them back to Benchmade to exchange it for something more to thier liking. I had purchased over a dozen knives, and yes probably returned half of those. But, it was on last trip to Benchmade, they gave me alot of grief about returning knives "too much". Granted, I returned half of what I purchased. I had planed on purchasing atleast 20 to 30 more knives from Benchmade, but after being scolded in front of everyone, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Ultimately I feel it's thier lose, not mine. Which is a shame, because I really did enjoy Benchmade. Since,I've found that their are just as good if not better guality knives out there, it was Benchmade's customer service reputation that truly drew me in, in the first place. But,that didn't hold up? I guess, what I'm seeing is, maybe we shouldn't meet our heros? You decide.

I bought this knife for my dad as an early Christmas gift. Even though the knife feels like a good knife and came out of the box extremely sharp, this is not a knife I would buy for myself for only one reason. I prefer full liners instead of 3/4 liners. Despite this one dislike from me, I know my dad will love the knife based on what he has owned in the past.

The blade was centered properly, the shape was clean with no grind problems, and it was sharp enough to shave with straight out of the box. It also locks up nicely. Overall I like the knife, but since I use knives a lot I'm not sure how the 3/4 length liners would hold up the way I use knives.

This is my 2nd Grip, I got the 551, with G10/CMP-20CV. I have a 555 but, its a wood handle limited edition Bone Collecter one has D2.I bought my son and wife a mimi 556 with 154CM.
I like the CMP-S30V steel,I have most of the Hunt series collection, only missing, the small and big Summit lake.I'm hoping that the 20CV is about the same! I am becoming Benchmade collecter...lol!

I have multiple full and mini griptillians, as well as many other models. The grips are a great introductory model and carry a mini grip most every day. They hold up well and I have not had an issue with an axis lock yet, and if I do....I'll send it in no big deal. The handles are not my "preferred" material, but for EDC it is perfect as they do not stain and clean with a simple wipe with a cloth. When I'm going out I'll carry a higher quality BM. I personally do not care the sound that is made with full size grips when closing. I did buy an aluminum handle for one of my full size and yes it sounds much better but do not like the in hand feel as much as original handle. I also have a couple of the newer gray g10 handle grips and the feel great in hand with a little less grip due to texture being a bit less aggressive and are a little slimmer and 20cv steel holds a great edge.
I happen to be carrying a 556bkod today as it is my favorite color and bought a second one of that model today. I even have an older sheepsfoot full size grip in 440c steel and wish the newer sheepsfoot grips used a flat grind like it verses the hollow grind that the 154cm models do now,but the newer grips in 20cv do use a flat grind instead of a hollow grind. These are great user blades for EDC use when you don't want to use a nicer blade for the rougher dirty EDC use. Though I do carry the newer gray g10 grip sometimes when I go out even though it is not as "nice or fancy" as some of my better BM, they just feel so nice in hand.

at first everyone i believe gets bitten by them but once a person gets comfortable with handling it everyday opening and closing, knowing how far they can push it to its limits then you truly findout why you bought a bench made. I have to say i used my griptilian for everything and i was real rough with it. It held up beautifuly and i will never buy an other manufacturer. Perfect in my eyes

I bought my original Mini-griptilian from REI, a knife store clerk told me about it's superior quality. That knife went with me everywhere, camping trips, river regattas, beaches, off roading. Its mechanism never stopped working after some cleaning and oiling. My original knife never showed signs of rust even after spending days at the beach and using it to cut anything from food to rope.
I lost my original knife a few weeks ago and had to have it replaced. Ordered my new personalized mini-griptilian 8/22 and just received it on 8/26. Customer service is fast.
I highly recommend this knife, it's durable and made with extreme quality materials.

Love this knife, I am an Eagle Scout and go on many Boy Scout outings, and this knife has absolutely proven itself! I use it daily whenever I am out and about, and also camping. I love the Axis Lock mechanism, and the way it holds up to the weather; it is very durable.Definitely recommend to anyone looking to buy this knife to get the S30V steel, as it flawlessly holds up to anything. Bench-Made have really outdone themselves!

Got 2, full size and mini. The mini is and has been for many years my EDC. Not to date it but the steel is 440C. I have several other Benchmades, 710, large and small, Griptialians, same. But this is the one I use the most. Wouldn't consider anything less.

This is the optimal knife for everyday carry. I use it for everything and this is by far the toughest and most quality brand of knife that I've ever bought. I recommend the tanto blade however with so many customizable options you can find a perfect fit for your specific needs. The warranty alone is worth the price of the knife. Benchmade takes care of their customers and that's why I refuse to buy any other brand. Benchmade for life.

I took this knife with me when i went caving. It got covered in mud, dirt, sand and submerged in water for hours. The Axis lock was a little sticky when i got out of the cave but a quick rinse off in a nearby stream made it work brand new again. This knife is a little pricey but well worth it.

Decided to purchase a new EDC and the reputation of the Griptilian sealed it for me. The blade is clearly top quality and looks like it will be serviceable. I'm still getting used to the Axis system. My only concern is how effectively it will work in an outdoor environment where dirt might get in the Axis mechanism. But my big issue is with the nylon grip. It is awful, feels like cheap plastic and Benchmade should not be selling knives of this cost with such pathetic materials. I've only had the knife for 3 days and have already ordered replacement grips from another manufacturer.

Ok, where to start. I have had my 551 for about 4 months now.I have used it everyday cutting boxes down, whittling sticks, opening packages, and many other EDC type tasks. the blade is excellent (I have to 154cm blade) I have only sharpened the blade twice, but remember cardboard is a blade's worst enemy. the knife has a great feel, and it is a good weight for an EDC blade. I have had many different knives that weighed many different weights, the 551 is a great weight and would be perfect for anyone looking to EDC this knife. I had to tighten the pivot screw a little, because I was flipping it all of the time. The smoothness of this blade is amazing the AXIS lock is something that i can not live without now. I'll pick up a buddy's CRKT and try AXIS locking the knife. The handle throws a lot of people off, but I have had no problems with it, I have dropped in on concrete from about 5 feet and nothing happened, stayed as good as new. The price is a good price for the quality and great customer service. I would recommend this knife to anyone.

The customer service is amazing too!

I am so glad I did this, not just because the Griptilian is an all-around great knife, but the fact that I could modify it to my wants and needs is a great benefit. I was able to choose the handle color, which is sweet and nice but not a major deal to me, but that I could choose the point, steel and whether there is serration is fantastic to me.
I tried to avoid being a metal snob but not anymore. I might settle on some steels, but D2 and S30V are just wonderful steels for knives and I couldn't imagine settling for mere 420 stainless ever again. Yes, it is more expensive but anyone with sense knows you get what you pay for. This knife is on my person at all times and I don't see that changing anytime soon. If you need a major tactical blade then look at a Contego, but the Griptilian is more than good enough for everyday needs and then some.

I've had many different knives in the past, but nothing compares to my Griptilian! Razor sharp out of the box, excellent balance, quality and craftsmanship. Unless I lose it (hope I never do) I'll never buy another knife again, unless it's another Benchmade model! Thinking about getting a mini grip for my wife too!

I bought this fine blade right before moving north for college, and it has served me well. The D2 steel option is truly phenomenal, although it takes time to periodically recondition and sharpen. It's been used for splitting wood, sharpening pencils, opening bottles, as a kitchen knife, bike and truck repair, gutting and cleaning fish and grouse, cutting down whole trees, fixing m249 malfunctions, and as a screwdriver. I'm not afraid of chipping the tip, or snapping the hinge with the Griptilian's superb construction. 10/10 would recomend, and have purchased, for and too friends ans family.

A couple years back I sent my Griptilian back for service, a new blade and engraving. All just a small price to aid in the safe return of my favorite knife should I ever lose it. What a great service for such a truly useful tool.

First, some history. I've had two Griptilians so far and I've loved them both. The first was a 154CM which was retired, but I've saved it for when my nephew is older. The second was a limited-edition D2 which was lost along with my luggage on a flight back from Kaua'i. So I just ordered an S30V and I cannot wait to get it.

My knives see a lot of different use: opening 100's of boxes in a day, opening the mail, whittling, field-dressing animals, stripping wire, cutting food... It's a long list and of all the knives I've owned (Gerber, CRKT, SOG) the Benchmade Griptilian has been the only one to take it all. The ergonomics are superb and the AXIS lock beats everything else on the market. I buy them for friends and family because I want to spread the love. Even my wife loves my Benchmade knives.

Folks for 14yrs I carried my griptilian, and I used it, I am a volunteer firefighter and emt, I am an avid outdoorsman I hunt and fish, I do industrial maintenance for a living. Im telling you this knife has out lasted any other knife I have ever owned. Its holds its edge and is tough as nails. I recently sent it back and had a new blade installed in it, they went above and beyond. Well now the sad part, working the nightshift I somehow managed to lose my knife, I hope whoever finds it gets as many years out of it that I did, but along with this review Im placing my order for my new griptilian.

The Griptilian has more than exceeded my expectations. I have owned it for 9 months and intend to send it in for sharpening and tune-up at it's 1 year anniversary. It has made such an impression I want to buy a second Griptilian just to have one when I send the other in. I own a security systems business and work in unique environments on a daily basis. Everyday I find myself in attics, crawl spaces and other confined spaces. The Griptilian goes with me every step of the way giving GREAT service. I have owned hundreds if not thousands of brand name Chinese made knives and wouldn't consider going back to one of those. For years I couldn't justify to myself the expense of a quality made knife like Benchmade. After experiencing the Benchmade difference I now realize all those other knives were a waist of money. The sales clerk at my local knife shop told me something that sold me. He said "if you continue to buy cheap knives you will pay for a high quality knife and never own it".

...in this case that's a good thing! Benchmade isn't cheap but it is well worth the cost. I've had my Griptilian for years and it has served me well. The Axis locking mechanism takes a little getting used to but is absolutely superb. With a pull of the knob and the slightest flick of the wrist you can open this knife nearly as fast as many of the spring assisted blades out there. What I love is that this knife is so well balanced that you can easily reverse that process to close the knife. No other knife I've had (and I've had a lot) has allowed me to close the blade while holding it in such a natural position. My only complaint is that every now and then when I'm not being careful the thumb studs can get hung on my pocket and start to deploy the blade prematurely as I'm pulling it out. But this is truly a great a knife and I recently utilized the Lifesharp service which blew me away. I got my knife back with a beautifully sharpened blade, all cleaned up and lubed, a new clip, and a nice box. You can't beat that for only having to pay to ship it to Benchmade! If you're not buying this knife, that's fine. Just make sure you end up buying another Benchmade.
