It took me a while to warm up to this knife. I don’t know why. Maybe I was looking for something showier. In any case, I’d had it for some time before I paid attention. Now it looks just about perfect.

The size is right for me--easy to carry and large enough to use. It doesn’t seem like a cut-down version of a larger knife. The G10 grip has a sculpted form different from many flat, two-dimensional shapes. It is very light.

The assist is aggressive. There is spring pressure all the way to the open, locked position. It opens easily, but it’s no mousetrap and the safety lock is not really needed. One-handed closing is not comfortable and not secure; I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone but a card sharp.

Mine is nicely made, but the design somewhat obscures that. The factory edge (S30V) is nothing special and could stand a tuneup.

This is my second favorite Benchmade behind my Volli. The blade deployment on this knife is incredibly fast and the lockup is perfect. I love the blade style, it has plenty of belly and is long enough for most needs. I am not a fan of the valox scales, they feel cheap. I haven't had any performance issues or anything, but then again I haven't abused the knife. I will definitely be ordering a custom from Benchmade at some point just so I can get some G10 scales, I appreciate the mini at least that much. Perfect for medium/small hands, might not be enough purchase for larger hands.

I just bought this knife to commemorate my daughter. Got it in custom colors, no serrations, small clip; all the things that would suit me on my climbing harness. Nothing about this knife was my first choice, including all of the previously mentioned.

Every knife I have has to serve a purpose, and I thought you needed a lot of steel and handle to get the job done. I was wrong. The working edge, because of no serrations, is as long, if not longer than other large knives I have. It is a perfect tool that fits in my hand with no unnecessary bits. The weight is down and it’s inconspicuous.

This knife, not only the materials, but the size, has opened my eyes to the need and uslefulness of smaller dedicated blades, rather than jack of all trades. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites.

I've owned a few other brands of assisted opening knives and you can really tell the difference between Benchmade and others. Rock solid deployment of the blade and the Axis lock is amazing. Carried a 531 for about a year, daily and used it often. The 531 is still perfectly centered and solid.....and a beautiful blade as well! Decided to switch to the mini Barrage for easier use with non dominant hand. Couldn't be happier with my Benchmade knives! Customer service has been excellent as well.

Seriously people if you are on the fence about this bad boy, just buy it. I've owned it for a couple months now. I did the custom order added that M4 blade to it did the fancy engraving. No pitting or rust. Get yourself a diamond sharpener and shes ready to rock. I am buying 2 more. I hear the deep carry clip is pretty zesty with this beautiful knife. But all in all it's well worth the $$$. Nice job benchmade, you guys rock and so does your customer service.

I purchased the Benchmade 585 a few years ago and it one of my most frequently carried knives.
It would be a perfect EDC (for me) with different handle material as I find that the Valox has little if any grip. Feels slippery to me. The deep carry clip that Benchmade sent me at no charge is perfect as it now stays securely in the pockets of all types of pants materials.
The addition of a glass breaker would make the Barage 585 indispensable!

This is the 4th Mini Barrage I've purchased if that tells you anything about what I think of the knife. My only issue is I wish they'd bring back more color options when they first started the custom knife builder. Love the knife and I'm sure it won't be my last Benchmade.

Very nice EDC knife from a company that stands behind it's products. I use this knife everyday and it has never failed me yet. I have the serated edged blade.

I've wanted a Benchmade for a long time. For years I have been settling for something more in my price range and liking (but not loving) it because of the blade quality, weight, or overall feel. Within a short time I would find myself on the hunt for a new knife.

Then about 4-5 months ago I purchased the Mini Barrage (satin plain edge blade) with Valox handle as a present to myself.

Hands down this has been my BEST knife purchase and the first time I have not started looking for my next knife.

If you are looking for an EDC knife versatile enough that you can carry whether in the office or elsewhere...then you need to give this knife serious consideration.

Pros:
* The weight and balance is great for an assisted opener. It seems like the assisted openers run a little heavier. I've become spoiled with assisted openers over the last several years so that functionality was a must.
* Assisted opener - Benchmade makes the best that I have tried to date. It opens with a positive feel.
* Construction - There is no wiggle.
* Size - Perfect for an EDC. It's slightly shorter than my last knife, but I have not missed the length.
* Blade - I've never had a knife so sharp out of the box and it has done great retaining the edge. No spotting or rusting on the blade.
* Valox handle - I was not familiar with this material, but it has a good feel and looks much better than the G10 in this model in my opinion.

Love this thing, I carry it everyday and use it all the time. It springs open every time and feels solid no matter what I'm cutting. The blade quality is great for the price. Awesome gift right here for anyone getting into knives.
