Posted onNice little knifeThe weight of this with included Kydex sheath is 69 grams (2.43 oz). As carrying it without a sheath would be impractical at best, I wish this weight had been stated as well. Don't get me wrong, it is still supper light and comes in at almost half the weight of my hidden canyon hunter (123 g with sheath, G-10 handles) and I figured the listed weight was the knife only anyway. As a general purpose knife, the the blade shape, length, and thickness on the Altitude is really nice. I can see carrying it as my only knife in the field, especially if the S90V holds up anything like the M390 steel on my EDC folder.

It’s small and handy, I really like that, it’s not too much knife but just right to take an animal apart. After using it I really appreciated the balance and how easy it was to move around. I was concerned with some of the reviews that said it wasn’t comfortable, I didn’t notice that one bit, I had my Steep Country with me too, just in case. It felt like an extension of my hand and glided through meat and removed skin like it was nothing. It’s pricy but I think the S90V is worth it, I wish it was less expensive but certainly worth the money. The only downside is the difficulty to sharpen, but that’s what you’ll get if you want a knife that’ll stay sharp for a long time.
Posted onBest hunting knife everJust got back from my 2019 archery deer hunt. I used this knife to gut, skin, and butcher the deer. That is right, all three! It stayed sharp for the entire process on an Oregon mule deer! I did not feel like I needed anything else after using this. Highly recommend.
Posted onGreat lightweight knife but the sheath?I bought this knife at the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Rendezvous in Boise earlier this month(May, 2019) It was quite the deal and I can't pass up on a Benchmade Knife. It's super sharp, very lightweight and the orange color will help me not lose it in the field. BUT how in the heck I'm supposed to attach it to anything resembling a belt or a harness when the slots on the holster/sheath are so darn dinky? Help me out here!
Posted onWhat a quality designi have always enjoyed the quality builds out of benchmade and did not think this one out of all my benchmades would be my favorite but it is. the steel is so smooth and the simplicity of design with the carbon fiber touch is just remarkable. it is so well balanced and comfortable in the hand it is truly an award winning piece despite its simplicity
Posted onRockyThe steel in this knife is my all time favorite. This knife is a great alternative to all the changeable blade type knifes out there if you are looking for extremely low weight for your carry into the wild.
The knife feels well for the gutting and the first part skinning but after a while of using it, you wish you had just a bit more handle on the knife and taken your Hidden Canyon instead. I don't think this knife will be my go-to travel backpacking hunting knife. I will rather lower the pack in weight in other ways. Having a great feeling knife that fits your hand perfectly, with no hotspots is vital to me more so than low weight knife.
Posted onExpensive for what it is, but nice to haveAs a avid backpacker and backcountry hunter this knife stood out. I ordered it in orange from the factory store as soon as they started accepting orders. Even at this price I would do that again. To be clear though, you are getting very little knife (that is the idea after all). In my opinion you are paying a premium not for the features of the knife but for the lack there of. It will save you some ounces, so if you are trying to shave every ounce it is the way to go. Otherwise I would get the Steep Country (which I also have). It is a better knife for hunting by every measure other than weight (about 2 oz more) and slight edge performance at half the price. Quality would be 5 stars, but orange finish chips of easily and quick.
