Full Specifications

Intentionally built for the pursuit of a passion, the 15002-1 Saddle Mountain Skinner is a premium hunt fixed-blade designed for big game hunters around the globe. The newly redesigned low-profile sheath creates a reliable housing for convenient storage in your pack. Improvements to the overall geometry, ergonomics, and material, will make the last cut feel just as effortless as the first with the help of Benchmade's new SelectEdge®. Over time, Richlite®, a paper composite material, will develop a natural patina, altering the original color of the material. "Patina” is a natural occurrence in the product that can either darken or lighten depending on exposure to light.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Benchmade 15002 and the 15002-1 Saddle Mountain Skinner? +

The 15002-1 is the premium version of the Saddle Mountain Skinner. The blade upgrades to S90V, a higher-vanadium steel with superior edge retention for a longer time between sharpenings. The handle swaps stabilized wood for Richlite/Orange G10, a denser, moisture-resistant composite that maintains its grip even in wet field conditions. It also features Benchmade's SelectEdge™ sharpening technology with a 14° edge angle that ensures razor-sharp performance, and comes with a lightweight Boltaron® sheath instead of leather.

Is S90V steel worth the upgrade over S30V on the Saddle Mountain Skinner? +

For most hunters, yes. If edge retention is a priority, S90V holds a working edge longer than S30V, meaning fewer touch-ups during extended field dressing sessions. The trade-off is that S90V is harder to resharpen in the field when the time comes. Both steels offer excellent corrosion resistance, but S90V is the better choice for hunters who put their knife through heavy, repeated use and want the edge to last as long as possible. For lighter or occasional use, S30V performs exceptionally well and is easier to maintain in the field.

What's the difference in sheath material between the 15002 (leather) and the 15002-1 (Boltaron®)? +

Leather and Boltaron® serve the same job differently. The leather sheath on the 15002 is traditional, durable, and form-fitting, but heavier at 2.46 oz. The Boltaron® sheath on the 15002-1 is a synthetic thermoplastic that's significantly lighter at 1.38 oz, moisture-resistant, and designed with a low-profile form factor for clean pack storage.

What makes the Benchmade 15002-1 Saddle Mountain Skinner different from other hunting knives? +

The 15002-1 is a premium-tier hunting fixed blade engineered for demanding field use. It runs S90V super steel for industry-leading edge retention that stays sharp through multiple big game harvests, paired with Benchmade's SelectEdge® 14° cutting geometry for enhanced slicing efficiency. The Richlite/G10 handle offers the feel of a natural material while being completely impervious to blood, moisture, and warping. Full-tang construction adds maximum structural integrity, making it the knife built for hunters who refuse to compromise.
